Merit Badge Counselors

Accessing the Merit Badge Counselor Database Online (searchable by name or sub-district (LDS Stake)

                      • New users of the system will need to  Click here and create an account and password to be able to access and search the merit badge counselor database.
                      • If you already have your password, click here to access the database.

Process for Becoming a Merit Badge Counselor

                  1. Click here and download fill out the form.
                  2. Click here to download and fill out a BSA Adult Application if you are not already registered. There is no charge if you are registering only as a merit badge counselor.
                  3. Click here to completely read through the Merit Badge Counselor Instructor’s Guide.
                  4. Click here to complete:
                    1. Youth Protection Training online. (30 min) Mandatory bi-annually.
                    2. Online Merit Badge Counselor Course (2 modules)

Turn in all paperwork to the Council Offices or to the District Executive in person, by mail, or by email.



Merit Badge Opportunities

Scouts are encouraged to work on merit badges they are interested in individually. They may locate a counselor using the database above. Below are other local opportunities to earn merit badges.

  • Your scout troop has the opportunity to attend scout camp during the summer where they can earn several merit badges. Contact your scout leader for more information.
  • BYU Merit Badge PowWow – twice per year in the Fall and Spring. Google BYU merit badge PowWow for more information and list of merit badges offered. Register early for best selection.
  • NEW! The Utah Parks National Council is now offering monthly overnight Merit Badge Adventures at local Council Scout Camps. A great way for your troop to get in your monthly campouts AND complete merit badge requirements too. Individual scouts may attend without their troop with a parent and the overnight will count towards the 20 required overnights for the camping merit badge.
  • Springville Pool 10am-12pm, no pre-registration necessary.
    • 1st Saturday of the month – SWIMMING OR FIRST AID
    • 2nd Saturday of the month – LIFE SAVING
  • CAF Aircraft Museum in Heber offers the AVIATION Merit Badge. You can schedule a class just for your troop or attend one that is scheduled for another group. Submit your contact info here and they will call you to coordinate.
