Eagle Coach Responsibilities

  • KNOW THE WEBSITE!
  • Complete District Committee Training and BSA Youth Protection Training.
  • Utilize the website as a reference tool when reviewing proposals and completed packets.
  • Orient Scouts, Parents & your Troop leaders with the website, approval requirements, and procedures as needed.  Encourage them to go to the website for answers to questions.
  • Work with Unit Advancement Chair to ensure all merit badges and rank dates are correctly entered into the online BSA Advancement System so the Scout Internet Advancement Member Summary is correct (to be included in each Scout’s Eagle Packet).
  • Relay information as directed, from the District Eagle Committee to Scouts, parents, & troop leaders.
  • Provide feedback to the District Eagle Committee.
  • Help Scout as requested and as needed at the following times:
    • Review Eagle project proposal, referring to guidelines on website, prior to the Scout submitting it for approval.
    • Review project plan after the Scout has made revisions suggested by the committee prior to project approval (if any)
    • Encourage a parent to attend the Approval Board with the Scout so that they understand the process.  You are also encouraged to attend.
    • Review the final packet paperwork, comparing it to the website information, to ensure it is complete before the Scout submits his packet prior to his Eagle Board of Review.
    • If the Scout’s leader is unable to attend the Eagle Board of Review, you may attend and present the Scout to the Board (parents may also fulfill this role).
